Suicide Squad Movie Review
September 1, 2016
Suicide Squad is the most anticipated movie of the summer and one of the most anticipated movies of the year. But does it live up to the hype?
Unfortunately, movie critics are giving it a hard time and are absolutely bashing the film, which currently has a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. Writing for The Wall Street Journal, Joe Morgenstern heavily criticized the film saying, “In a word, Suicide Squad is trash. In two words, it’s ugly trash.”
Despite these negative reviews, the film is making records at the box office and has just exceeded the $600 million mark. Despite the best efforts of the critics, Suicide Squad is a success. Why? Simply because viewers love it. Myself included. I saw it with my friends and I had a blast. Though I can understand some of the criticisms, I don’t consider it “ugly trash” at all. Other fans of the film include John Ostrander, who wrote the first Suicide Squad comics in the 80s and had his name referenced in the film, and Paul Dini, the man who created Harley Quinn, who made her cinematic debut in the film.
So then why are critics being so harsh? Simple. Most of them are heavily biased against DC and they are not seeing the film as it is. That is why I propose that if you are interested in seeing the film, go see it. Forget what the critics are saying and judge it for yourself. It’s definitely not perfect and could have been better, but for what it is, it is a fun action film. The best thing about this movie is the characters and the actors bringing them to life, even if they are underused. I would go into greater detail, but I would rather have you find out and appreciate this film for yourself. I recommend it. It was a blast and some of the most fun I had at the movies all year, which is saying A LOT, since I’ve been to the movies half a dozen times this year and had fun every time.
