The Lego Batman Movie Review
March 23, 2017
Always be yourself. Unless you can be Batman.
The Lego Batman Movie may just be the best portrayal of the costumed crusader in recent memory.
The Lego Batman Movie had to work as a Batman movie, a follow-up to The Lego Movie, a comedy, a spoof, and a tribute to the Batman mythos. Did it work? Yes. It did.
I had high expectations going in and yet it was somehow better than I could have even imagined. It was hilarious, well-written, full of references, and fun. It also had likable characters and excellent morals. The movie knows it’s important to tell a good story and there were plenty of surprises and cameos that the trailers did not give away.
The movie also knew the importance of character development and growth, so that it’s not just ninety minutes of jokes. The movie is well-animated, creative, and I’m not lying when I say it had me laughing a few seconds in.
The movie is delightfully self-aware and pays homage to all of Batman’s various incarnations. They even have Billy Dee Williams voicing Two-Face! Now if only they could have put in Bob the Goon somewhere…
Batman is a great lead, but the other characters are lots of fun as well. This movie’s version of Robin is definitely an improvement over another version of the character…
Ugh. Anyway, Joker, Barbara, Harley Quinn, and Alfred are also very memorable.
I highly recommend this film. It’s not just for kids (there’s even some adult jokes in there) and it’s fun for the whole family. Is it better than The Lego Movie? I’m not sure. What do you think, Batman?
Batman: The Lego Batman Movie has more Batman, therefore it is better.
Can’t argue with that logic. I give The Lego Batman Movie ten out of ten cans of shark repellent.
Man, Batman has aged phenomenally.
